Google Funds Nuclear Uprates at Vogtle and Hatch

Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), has announced that it will partner with Google to fund power uprates at its Plant Vogtle and Plant Hatch nuclear stations. The project aims to add about 96 megawatts of capacity to the Georgia grid.

The deal is expected to deliver an estimated $900 million in benefits to Georgia Power's 2.8 million customers over the life of the reactors, according to Southern Company. Google's subscription will help fund upgrades that benefit every customer on the system while supporting local economic development around the sites it runs in the state.

The Nuclear Uprate tariff governing how the work is paid for was filed by Georgia Power with the Public Service Commission alongside the regulatory filings. The commission had already cleared an uprate for Plant Vogtle units 1 and 2 in its 2025 Integrated Resource Plan.
