Google Gemini Desktop App Lands on Windows PCs with Floating Overlay
Google has released its standalone Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs worldwide. The native client runs on both x64 and ARM64 architectures, designed as a lightweight background application that avoids hogging system memory or dragging down PC performance.
The key addition to the desktop client is its floating overlay behavior. Pressing Alt + Space instantly summons Gemini directly over whatever program you currently have open, allowing users to ask quick questions, rephrase text, or brainstorm ideas without breaking their focus or navigating away from their primary workspace.
Beyond quick chat queries, the application acts as a hub for Google's broader productivity ecosystem. By connecting directly to your Google account, Gemini can pull context, summarize email threads, and reference documents across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs.
