Google Gemini Topples 1 Billion Monthly Users Amidst AI Assistant Frenzy
Google's Gemini AI assistant has reached a milestone of 1 billion monthly active users, making it the company's fastest-growing product ever. This achievement comes just months after Google announced that its Gemini app and related experiences had surpassed 950 million monthly users in July.
The growth rate is impressive, with Gemini jumping from around 750 million monthly users earlier this year to 1 billion in August. Notably, more than 100 million of these users are on Apple devices, according to Google's figures.
Google's achievement follows closely behind that of ChatGPT, which reached the 1 billion monthly active user milestone earlier and has since surpassed 1 billion weekly active users. However, it's essential to note that the numbers are not directly comparable, as OpenAI emphasizes weekly active users for ChatGPT.
The significance of these milestones extends beyond the sheer number of users. Google and other AI companies are competing over how often people use their assistants, what those systems can do, their integration into everyday products and businesses, and how they turn enormous user bases into sustainable revenue.
