Google, Georgia Power Strike $900M Nuclear Uprate Deal
Georgia Power and Google have reached an agreement on nuclear uprate deals worth $900M. The deal, pending approval by the Georgia Public Service Commission, includes extended power uprates at Plants Vogtle and Hatch. This will add approximately 96 megawatts of capacity to the state's electric grid, according to a press release statement.
The agreement is projected to generate around $900 million in benefits for customers over the life of the units. The Nuclear Uprate tariff structure has been filed with the Georgia PSC, and an extended power uprate for Plant Hatch 1 & 2 is requested.
Nuclear energy accounted for more than 25% of energy produced in Georgia last year. This deal shows the potential for large-load growth to benefit all electric customers, according to Aaron Mitchell, Senior Vice President of Strategic Growth for Georgia Power.
