Google Gets Reprieve on AdX Amid Antitrust Ruling
A federal judge has ruled that Google can retain its digital advertising exchange, AdX, despite previously finding the tech giant guilty of monopolizing the digital advertising space. In April 2025, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema found that Google had willfully engaged in anticompetitive practices to gain power in both the publisher ad server and ad exchange markets.
The Department of Justice brought a lawsuit against Google in 2023, arguing that the company needed to sell off AdX to break up the monopoly. However, Brinkema has now ruled that Google does not have to divest from AdX and instead ordered the company to enact various remedial business measures.
The specifics of these measures remain sealed for two weeks to allow time for any necessary reactions given the sensitive information involved in the case.
