Google Grants $200k to Buffalo Ahead of Data Center Project
Google has awarded $200,000 in grants to various organizations and schools in Buffalo, West Virginia, ahead of its planned data center project. The funds will be used for a range of initiatives, including free athletic tickets for high school students, new flooring for the senior center's pool room and weight room, and digital signage for elementary schools.
The grants are seen as a positive step by local officials, who believe it shows Google is committed to engaging with the community. 'This is good for our kids and our kids are going to benefit from these opportunities,' said Buffalo High School Principal Josh Isaacs.
However, not everyone is pleased with the data center project, which has raised concerns about water usage, tax money, and the impact on local farmland. Some residents have organized meetings to voice their opposition, but Google says it wants to be a good neighbor and invest in the community.
