Google Home Bug Triggers Gemini's American Accent
A peculiar bug has been affecting Google Home users, causing the virtual assistant Gemini to respond in an American accent when referencing certain smart home devices, despite language preferences set otherwise.
The issue was first reported by a Reddit user who claimed that Gemini would only use an American accent when discussing their Nest Doorbell, even though they are French and live in France. This user's complaint has since been echoed by others from the Netherlands and the UK, with one person experiencing the same issue with Bosch washing machine alerts.
According to Google, the problem is being worked on, but no fix has been released yet. The company attributed the issue to a bug that may have arisen after the September update to Google Home, which included changes to Gemini's functionality.
