Google Honors World Space Week 2026 with Rosebud Nebula Doodle
Google has kicked off World Space Week 2026 with a special Doodle celebrating the wonders of space. On October 6, the tech giant featured its logo over a stunning image of the Rosebud Nebula, captured by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The Doodle showcases the nebula's shimmering stars, creating a captivating visual on the search engine's homepage.
This year's World Space Week, running from October 4 to October 10, revolves around the theme "Rocket Revolution." The event aims to highlight humanity's advancements in spaceflight over the past decade and unite various stakeholders, including industry leaders, educational institutions, and space enthusiasts.
The Rosebud Nebula, located 3,300 light-years away, is a reflection nebula home to over 130 young stars. Its clouds of gas and dust form a shape resembling an unopened rosebud, glowing rosy-pink due to the heated dust.
World Space Week was established by the United Nations in 1999 to commemorate two significant events: the launch of Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite, on October 4, 1957, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967, which set the principles for peaceful space exploration.
