Google Inks Deal with MN8 for Solar Power at West Virginia Data Center
Google has announced plans to source solar power for its new data center in Putnam County, West Virginia. The tech giant purchased land near Buffalo in March and launched a website in June to provide updates on the project.
A recent press release from power platform MN8 revealed that they will provide 86 megawatts of renewable energy to Google's data centers in the region.
The solar project, built on a reclaimed coal mine in Kanawha County and approved by the West Virginia Public Service Commission last November, is expected to reach commercial operation in 2028 and deliver power through the PJM grid.
To ensure around-the-clock power delivery, the project will use lithium-ion battery storage and zinc-based long-duration battery storage from Eos Energy Enterprises.
According to MN8, the project represents up to $350 million in capital investment and is expected to create approximately 200 jobs.
