Google Integrates Trusted Sources into AI Products with Expert Intelligence

Google has introduced 'Expert Intelligence', a cross-platform initiative that integrates trusted sources into Google AI products. The first integration is between Play Books and Gemini Notebook, allowing users to add ebooks to their notebooks and interact with them using AI-powered tools.

Select books from major publishers like Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, O'Reilly Media, and Penguin Random House can be added to Gemini Notebook. This enables users to 'ask questions about the book' and receive responses grounded directly in that book.

Expert Intelligence also allows users to generate infographics, audio overviews, quizzes, and other features from the integrated books. For instance, a manager can use Gemini Notebook to brainstorm strategies on how to give employees feedback by consulting Kim Scott's 'Radical Candor', or a parent can ask for help creating a healthy family meal plan based on Michael Pollan's 'Food Rules'.

The feature is currently compatible with over 100,000 books. Google worked with authors and publishers to establish controls that ensure users must own the book through Google Play Books before they can interact with it. If a notebook is shared, other collaborators will be prompted to purchase their own copy to engage with the content further.
