AI Stocks Remain in Third Inning: Analyst
Investors are advised to remain optimistic about artificial intelligence stocks despite some cautionary signals. Dan Ives, partner and senior managing director at Yorkville Ives, has been using the analogy of a baseball game's third inning to describe the current state of AI development. He believes that while the initial hype may have subsided, the real value lies in the underlying infrastructure and applications.
The 'third inning' phrase refers to the shift from simply buying graphics processing units (GPUs) to monetizing AI through various products and services. Ives has highlighted companies such as CoreWeave and Cisco as key players in this transition, with their cloud and networking solutions enabling enterprises to build and run AI factories.
The spending on AI infrastructure is expected to continue growing, with every dollar spent on Nvidia's GPUs potentially turning into $8 to $10 worth of total spend across storage, networking, cloud platforms, and software. This multiplier effect supports the notion that AI stocks have legs and will remain a significant player in the market.
Ives recommends focusing on three buckets: core infrastructure, cloud and platform providers, and software and security companies. He advises investors to concentrate on names with real AI demand, customers, revenue, and a clear role in the ecosystem.
