Google Introduces CrUX Ad Detection Tools for Enhanced Transparency
In an effort to improve ad transparency and value assessment, Google has launched new ad detection tools within its Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX). The tools aim to help paid-for media teams better evaluate audiences' ad-load experiences. According to Google, the four measurement criteria are currently being treated as experimental.
The new metrics include Ad Count, which measures the average number of ads in the viewport; Ad Density, which calculates the percentage of the viewport area occupied by ads; and Ad Weight (Network Usage) and Ad Weight (CPU Usage), which measure resources consumed by ads. Google says it has heard from various ad ecosystem stakeholders that these metrics can enhance how they value web ad opportunities.
The launch includes supporting statements from across the industry, including agencies, publishers, and ad tech providers. Bill Reardon, GM of enterprise platform at Google Ads, notes that Display & Video 360 supports this initiative to bring transparency to page layout quality.
