Google Introduces Qualified Future Conversions Metric for Advertisers
Google has introduced a new metric called Qualified Future Conversions (QFC), which counts conversions up to 180 days after an ad click. This is in response to John Chen, senior director of product management for ads measurement, who described the previous lookback window as 'arbitrary'.
In a recent video interview on Google Ads Decoded, Chen explained that QFC works by watching for a follow-up action within seven days of a click and then counting sales for up to 180 days afterwards. This means that advertisers will now be able to see the full impact of their campaigns, even if conversions occur months after the initial ad click.
The introduction of QFC is part of Google's efforts to make its measurement tools work together more smoothly. Chen noted that attribution, incrementality testing, and marketing mix modelling are all important tools, but they can sometimes conflict with each other. He compared this to trying to navigate a plane using multiple instruments, none of which give the same reading.
The new metric is likely to have a significant impact on advertisers who run campaigns with long consideration cycles. According to Chen, QFC will produce different channel rankings than the previous 30-day lookback window, and this difference will be largest exactly where consideration cycles are longest.
