Google Invests $1.2 Million in Chilean Canal Lining Project
Google has made a commitment to replenish more water than it consumes and improve watershed health in the communities where its data centers are located. In 2025, its water stewardship efforts successfully replenished more water to the Maipo River Basin in Chile than was consumed at its Quilicura data center.
To further support the Maipo River Basin, a vital source of water for Santiago, Google is contributing $1.2 million to Aguas Andinas. This funding will help line a 2.5-kilometer section of the Unidos de Buin Canal Association's main irrigation canal with concrete.
The canal lining project is expected to reduce water loss from seepage, ensuring that more water remains available for local agricultural irrigation and reducing sedimentation and erosion, which will improve water quality.
