Google Invests in HBI Program Linking Veterans to Building Careers
Home Builders Institute (HBI) has received a $grant from Google.org to expand its skilled trades training and job placement services for transitioning military service members, veterans, and military families.
The funding will add cohorts at existing military sites, broaden training, and strengthen job placement. HBI's Military Services program offers tuition-free, 12-week training through the Department of Defense SkillBridge program at 10 sites on or near military installations.
Participants receive hands-on instruction in carpentry and electrical work, earn industry-recognized credentials, and get job placement support with residential builders and contractors. Graduates earn an average starting wage of over $23 per hour, and the programs have posted an 87% job placement rate.
