Google Research has launched Deep Review, an AI system designed to rigorously evaluate complex technical documents. As generative AI accelerates content creation, the gap between the volume of AI-generated material and human capacity to review it has widened, creating a validation bottleneck. Deep Review aims to bridge this gap by providing detailed, objective feedback on documents across various domains, including computer science, legal, and finance.
The system evolved from Google's Paper Assistant Tool (PAT), which was piloted with four major computer science conferences (STOC 2026, ICML 2026, NeurIPS 2026, and ICLR 2027). Over 16,000 authors opted in to receive pre-submission feedback, helping improve manuscript quality. Deep Review now offers tiered access, supporting PDFs and plain text inputs, with privacy assurances that uploaded documents are not used for model training.
Deep Review employs a four-stage pipeline: document segmentation, adaptive budgeting, parallel verification, and global synthesis. This approach ensures thorough scrutiny of each section while maintaining context across the entire document. The tool is versatile, applicable to design documents, presentations, legal agreements, and financial reports, helping users identify inconsistencies and logical gaps.
With the integration of Gemini 4 Argon, Deep Review's capabilities have expanded beyond its academic origins, offering structured critique for a broader range of workflows. The system is now available worldwide, with two complimentary reviews per week for users and scalable API options for high-volume workflows.
