Google Launches Guided Vision for Blind and Low-Vision Users
Google has launched Guided Vision, a real-time visual assistance feature for Android devices running Android 9 and above. The feature is available in regions and languages where Gemini Live is supported.
Guided Vision uses voice-driven descriptions of surroundings, answers follow-up questions, and provides proactive verbal cues to center whatever the user wants to explore. If the camera is pointed too high or off to the side, Gemini responds with natural verbal prompts to reframe.
The feature was developed in collaboration with Aira and the accessibility community. It has been tested extensively with blind and low-vision communities across various countries, including India, Brazil, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and more.
Google states that Guided Vision is not a medical device, mobility aid, or white cane replacement, and it should not be used for navigation or safe-travel guidance. The feature can make mistakes and users should continue relying on established mobility aids and safe-travel practices in physical environments.
