Google Launches Space-Based AI Data Center in Ambitious Experiment
Google is taking its artificial intelligence data centers to new heights - literally. The tech giant has commissioned an experimental satellite, Suncatcher V1, which will be sent into orbit and house a solar-powered AI data center.
The project, codenamed Project Suncatcher, aims to put Google's AI data centers in space, where they can operate without the constraints of traditional infrastructure. However, the idea is not without its challenges, including high costs and the need to withstand radiation in space.
Google has partnered with Planet Labs, a San Francisco-based company that specializes in satellite technology, to develop the Suncatcher V1 satellite.
