Google Maps Adds McLaren F1 Car as Limited-Time Driving Avatar
Google Maps has introduced a new customizable driving avatar option: a McLaren F1 car. This addition is part of a celebration for the United States Grand Prix and is available to users for a limited time.
To access the new avatar, users can go to their profile icon in the Google Maps app, navigate to Settings > Your vehicles > Driving avatar, and select the McLaren F1 car. Once chosen, the standard blue arrow will be replaced by the F1 car during navigation.
The feature is currently live on some devices, such as the iPhone Air, but may not yet be available on all Android devices. Google indicates this is a server-side rollout, meaning it will gradually become available to more users over time.
The McLaren F1 avatar will only be selectable until November 23, 2026, after which it will presumably be removed from the app.
