Google Maps Adds Real-Time Bike Availability and Parking in 24 Cities

Google Maps has expanded its bike-share feature to include real-time information on bicycle availability and parking in 24 cities worldwide. Starting Wednesday, users will be able to see how many bicycles are available at stations near their location, as well as the number of empty slots for dropping off a bike. This feature is similar to one that has been available to New York City CitiBike users for the past year.

The information is being pulled from transit data company Ito World and will be displayed on both Android and iOS versions of the Google Maps app. The cities included in this initial rollout are Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Chicago, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Kaohsiung, London, Los Angeles, Lyon, Madrid, Mexico City, Montreal, New Taipei City, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco Bay Area, São Paulo, Toronto, Vienna, Warsaw, and Zurich.

Google Maps has previously integrated bike-share information from companies like Lime, which offers electric scooters in many cities. By expanding its bike-share feature, Google is making it easier for people to use alternative transportation options without having to own a bike themselves.
