Google Maps Bows to Trump's Lake Renaming Demands

Google Maps has updated its platform to reflect a name change for Lake Ontario, now referring to it as 'Lake America' for users in the United States. The update follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Thursday, which directed U.S. databases and maps to use the new name.

The change is not reflected on other mapping services such as Apple Maps or MapQuest, with MapQuest explicitly stating that it will not be making the change.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford weighed in on the issue, calling the name change 'a mistake' and saying that 'no one's going to call it Lake America.' He also downplayed Trump's energy threats, noting that Canada is a key supplier of electricity to the United States and that provinces across Canada send power south as well.

When asked about his previous remarks with President Trump, Ford acknowledged that they had 'got heated,' but framed them as necessary responses to ongoing disrespect from the U.S. president.
