Google Maps Error Causes Traffic Chaos in Scotland
A Google Maps error led to chaos on a single-track road in Scotland when drivers were directed away from the main A9 road and onto a narrow alternative.
The incident occurred on Friday, with Google Maps prompting users to use a road between Dunkeld and Pitlochry after incorrectly flagging the A9 as closed. This section of the road was so narrow that vehicles coming from opposite directions couldn't pass each other, causing massive traffic jams.
Locals claimed they couldn't even leave their houses due to the congestion, with some drivers going as fast as 40 mph in an attempt to get through the queues. The situation became extremely dangerous, particularly for families, and emergency vehicles struggled to reach areas in need.
Google has since corrected the error, but locals complained that cars were still using the road on Monday when the A9 was supposed to be flagged as open on Google Maps.
