Google Maps Falls Short: Missing Features Leave Room for Improvement

Google Maps is widely considered one of the best navigation apps available, but it's not without its flaws. Several features that could enhance user experience are missing from the app.

One such feature is real-time crowdsourced incident reports, similar to those found in Waze. While Google Maps shows some of these reports, they're not as detailed or robust as those in Waze.

The issue is particularly evident when it comes to downloading offline maps. Currently, users must navigate through a hidden button on the placesheet or use the Offline maps page, which can be cumbersome and confusing.

Users also want more control over their routes, specifically the ability to lock in a custom path rather than relying on the app's auto-rerouting feature.

Finally, Google Maps' trip planning capabilities are seen as lacking compared to Waze. While users can set a departure or arrival time, the app doesn't provide detailed traffic analysis or suggested departure times.
