Google Maps Overhauls Android Auto Interface for Smarter Navigation

Google Maps is introducing changes to its Android Auto interface that could improve navigation before embarking on a trip. Currently, searching for a destination within Android Auto displays a compact card with basic details. Tapping an arrow reveals more information, including ratings and phone numbers.

A redesign of the destination card is underway, which will make room for photos and richer place information directly on the Android Auto display. The UI itself is getting a notable rework, moving estimated travel time and distance to a horizontal strip at the bottom of the card.

The new design includes a drag handle that lets users pull the panel upward to reveal more information, including alternative routes and stops. Scroll further up, and the card can now surface photos of the destination, an Overview section, a Good to know section, and the phone number.
