Google Maps Renames Lake Ontario 'Lake America' for US Users Amid Trump-Canada Trade Dispute

Google has begun displaying 'Lake America' on its Maps platform for users in the United States, following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump. The move comes amidst a trade dispute between the US and Canada, with Trump earlier stating that the US did not expect to do much business with Ontario any longer.

The lake sits between Ontario and New York, and Google's update affects only users in the US. For Canadians, 'Lake Ontario' will continue to be displayed, while users outside the US and Canada will see both names, with 'Lake America' appearing in parentheses.

Google stated that this change follows its long-standing policy for bodies of water with names that vary from country to country. The update has started rolling out now.
