Google Maps Rewards Users for Contributions to Accuracy

Google Maps users can contribute to improving the platform's accuracy and earn rewards in return. The Local Guides program encourages eligible users to help improve Google Maps by adding contributions like reviews, photos, and map edits. In exchange for their contributions, users will be rewarded with points and badges.

To join the Local Guides program, users must ensure they are using an individual Google account (not a business page) and are old enough to manage their own account (age requirements vary by country). Once enrolled, users can contribute to Google Maps by writing reviews, rating locations, adding photos and videos, and answering questions about places.

Each contribution earns specific Local Guide points. For instance, one review equals 10 points, but if it exceeds 200 characters, users are rewarded with an additional 10 bonus points. Rating places, answering questions, and reporting incorrect items earn one point each time. Users can advance through levels based on their total points earned, with significant jumps between levels.

Users can easily track their Local Guide level from Google Maps by opening the Contribute tab and selecting their name at the top. From here, they can see their level, total points earned, total contributions made, and number of views on their contributions.
