Google Maps Rolls Out Catastrophic Accident Navigation Feature

Google Maps has introduced a new feature that provides crawling directions for cyclists who have been hit by a truck. The feature, which is available now, aims to help cyclists navigate to their destination after being involved in an accident. According to Jasmine Harper, lead product developer at Google, the app dynamically adjusts a user's travel time based on the amount of blood they lose as they inch forward on their hands and knees.

The new setting highlights nearby hospitals that users might plausibly reach before passing out and generates flat-terrain routes to avoid inclines that would be difficult for cyclists with broken limbs to navigate. It also directs users to avoid streets with heavy traffic to reduce the risk of being run over a second time.

Harper noted that the new setting can also direct users to nearby parks and green spaces if they'd rather find a peaceful place to lie down and die.
