Google Maps Route Recommendations Get Smarter with Car Engine Type

As a seasoned user of Google Maps, I've often taken its route recommendations for granted. However, after digging into the settings and adjusting my car's engine type, I discovered that this simple detail made a significant difference in the routes suggested by the app.

I typically use Google Maps to navigate between Century Plaza and Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. Before making any adjustments, the app would often suggest taking Olympic Boulevard due to its proximity to my starting point. However, after changing my engine type to Gas, I noticed that the route suggestions made more sense.

The green leaf symbol indicating a fuel-efficient route now appeared on the suggested path, which was actually faster than the one I initially chose. According to Google Maps, this route could save me around 8% on gas, despite being the fastest option available.
