Google Maps Shows 'Lake America' as Trump's Name Change Sparks Controversy

Google Maps has begun displaying 'Lake America' to users in the United States following an executive order from President Donald Trump. The order, signed on Thursday, directed U.S. federal agencies to refer to Lake Ontario as 'Lake America', citing the lake's reliance on American security and investment for shipping and recreation.

However, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rejected the change, stating that 'Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario - then, now and always.'

Ontario Premier Doug Ford took a more public stance against the name change, erecting a large sign near Grimsby, Ontario reading 'Lake Ontario. Now and Always' in English and French.
