Google Maps Speedometer Switches Between Units on Android Auto

Google's Android Auto speedometer is causing headaches for users who have set their preferred unit of measurement to kilometers per hour (kph). The issue, which affects a small number of users, causes the speedometer to randomly switch between kph and miles per hour (mph) during navigation. This can lead to confusion when trying to determine one's speed.

Users who have enabled kph on their Google Maps settings report that the speedometer will occasionally display mph instead, even though the user has set it to show only kph. What's more, this issue cannot be resolved by simply restarting the app or adjusting the settings within Android Auto. The only workaround is to force-close the Google Maps app when the switch occurs.

Google has yet to comment on this new issue, but users are advised to keep their apps updated to ensure they have the latest version of Google Maps and Android Auto. It's worth noting that the rollout of a speedometer without a configured destination continues, with some users still experiencing issues with its disappearance after installing an early September update.
