Google Maps Temporarily Renames Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' Amid US-Canada Trade Tensions

Google Maps has temporarily renamed Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' for users in the US, following President Donald Trump's announcement that he wants to rename the body of water. However, this change only applies to users within the United States and not in Canada or any other country.

The name change is based on the US Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which is the official federal database for geographic names in the US. Google Maps updates its maps to reflect these changes, but it appears that Apple's Maps app has maintained the original name 'Lake Ontario' for users in the US.

The renaming of Lake Ontario is just one aspect of the ongoing trade tensions between the US and Canada. President Trump has been critical of Canadian auto imports, stating that he doesn't want 'Canadian cars, I don't want Canadian parts, I don't want Canadian anything.'
