Google Messages Bug Sends Old Texts to Wrong People
Google Messages is facing a major bug that has been sending old texts to the wrong people. The issue was first reported on Reddit in July and has since gained attention from users and media outlets. According to reports, the bug causes old messages to be inserted into new conversations, making it seem like they were sent by the user at the time.
One Reddit user described the issue as follows: 'For example, maybe a year ago I had a conversation with person A. I am now chatting to person B and the phone would send a message that person A sent me so that it looks like I'm sending this message to Person B right now.'
The bug appears to affect both RCS and standard SMS/MMS messages and is not limited to Pixel phones. Users have tried various fixes, including clearing cache, restarting their phone, and reinstalling the app, but none of these solutions have worked so far.
Google has acknowledged the issue and stated that a fix will be available for all users within the next few weeks. In the meantime, users are advised to carefully check the compose window before sending messages, especially those with photos or group messages.
