Google Messages Gets Custom Chat Themes and Backgrounds

Google Messages has introduced custom chat themes and backgrounds for RCS conversations on Android. This feature allows users to personalize their individual chats by changing both the wallpaper and message bubble colors.

The feature works on a conversation-by-conversation basis, with Google providing several curated wallpaper categories. Users can also choose one of their own photos from the gallery as the background. Once a background is selected, the message bubble colors are automatically adjusted to match it.

Users can manually change the color palette using a carousel at the top until they find a combination that suits their taste. Unlike some messaging apps, the theme choices remain private and do not affect how others see the conversation on their own devices.
