Google Messages Introduces Transcription Feature for Voice Notes
A common problem for many Android users is dealing with long audio messages on Google Messages. The recipient of such lengthy voice notes often finds themselves in an awkward position, forced to listen attentively and hope they catch the main point before the message ends.
This issue was a personal pet peeve for the writer of this article, who prefers reading over listening due to their fast-paced brain and ability to process text more quickly. The writer notes that even increasing the audio speed doesn't help, as it's still easy to miss important details like names or dates.
The solution came in the form of a built-in transcription system within Google Messages. To activate this feature, users need to go to their profile picture, select Messages settings, and then Voice message transcription. Once enabled, when an audio message is received, a 'View transcript' button appears above the recording.
Tapping on this button displays the text version of the message, allowing users to read it quickly without having to listen to the entire audio file. This feature not only saves time but also provides privacy for recipients who may find themselves in noisy or public areas when receiving a voice note.
