Google Offers Free AI Plans to College Students and Boosts Gemini Study Tools
Google has launched a new initiative to support college students worldwide by offering them free AI plans and expanding its Gemini study tools.
The tech giant is providing eligible college students in the US with one year of Google AI Pro at no cost, valued at $19.99 per month. This plan includes higher usage limits in Gemini, access to Gemini Spark, integration with Google applications like Gmail and Google Docs, 5TB of storage, and other features.
Outside the US, eligible college students can get one year of Google AI Plus for free, which comes with access to Gemini Omni, higher usage limits in Gemini, and 400GB of storage. The company is also offering a bundle combining Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium at discounts of up to 70% for students who want ad-free music and video streaming.
Google has introduced a dedicated student hub within the Gemini app, which brings together student-focused tools and offers. This includes study notebooks, flashcards, practice quizzes, and additional learning tools. The company is also expanding its study notebooks feature, allowing students to upload their own class materials and creating a structured study plan.
As part of the update, study notebooks will soon gain graphs and images as part of lessons, and Gemini will be able to identify key dates from a syllabus and add them to Google Calendar. The interactive visualisation capabilities in Gemini are also being expanded, allowing students to explore subjects through functional 3D simulations.
Google is further enhancing its conversational AI feature, Gemini Live, which allows students to discuss problem sets or study materials while the integration of Deep Research enables users to launch comprehensive research reports through voice conversations. This feature will soon be rolled out to all Gemini app users.
