Google Opens Home Ecosystem to External AI Agents
Google has expanded its Google Home ecosystem to support third-party AI agents, allowing users to build custom home-control interfaces and access new features such as voice-driven thermostat control.
The company has enabled Model Context Protocol technology, which allows any MCP-compatible agent to reach every device and event history stored inside the Google Home ecosystem.
This move makes Google Home the first of the three dominant smart home platforms to open its ecosystem to AI agents built outside its own walls, surpassing Apple Home and Amazon Alexa.
However, this expanded access also carries fresh risk, as prompt injection attacks can hide malicious instructions inside ordinary emails or calendar entries to seize control of connected devices without a user noticing.
