Google is expanding its Play Store to include apps created by so-called vibe coders, individuals who use AI to generate software code through natural language prompts. Starting October 13, 2026, any user aged 18 or older with a Google account can publish Android apps developed using Google AI Studio, the company’s web-based platform for prototyping apps and media with its AI models.
The change lowers the barrier for nontechnical consumers, allowing them to build and share personalized tools without needing a paid developer account. This move reflects a broader trend of users turning to AI to create custom solutions for their own needs.
Google AI Studio, launched earlier this year, provides an accessible way for users to experiment with AI-generated code and media. The platform supports various AI models, making it easier for beginners to develop apps without deep technical expertise.
