Google has quietly announced that certain Chromebook models will be eligible to upgrade from ChromeOS to Googlebook OS in the future. This news was revealed through a new support page, which The Verge recently spotted.

The upcoming Googlebook OS combines elements of ChromeOS with Android technology and is tightly integrated with the Gemini AI assistant. However, first impressions suggest that Googlebooks are more phone-first than AI-first, with their most compelling feature being native support for fully isolated Linux environments.

While Google has not provided specific details on which models will be eligible for the upgrade or how it will be carried out, the company promises to share more information in the future. For now, Chromebooks that do not receive the upgrade will still continue to receive regular updates until the end of their standard support period.
