Google Partners with Georgia Power for Nuclear Uprate at Vogtle and Hatch

Georgia Power and Google have signed an agreement to increase power production at two nuclear plants in Georgia, Vogtle and Hatch. The deal involves a subscription-based program where Google will purchase additional energy generated from upgraded equipment at these facilities.

The upgrades are expected to add 96 megawatts of new capacity to the grid serving Georgia Power customers, according to filings with the Georgia Public Service Commission. This is projected to deliver approximately $900 million in benefits to customers over the life of the units.

Georgia Power and Google emphasized that this agreement aligns with their goals of enhancing grid reliability and resiliency while creating savings for all customers. Aaron Mitchell, Senior Vice President of Strategic Growth for Georgia Power, expressed appreciation for Google's leadership in developing the program.
