Google Partners with Georgia Power on Nuclear Upgrade Deal

Georgia Power and Google have announced a deal to upgrade two older nuclear reactors at Plant Hatch in Georgia. The upgrades are part of a larger project to increase energy production from these facilities, which were built in the late-1980s.

The upgrades will add 96 megawatts of nuclear capacity to the grid and provide approximately $900 million in projected benefits to customers over their lifespan.

Under the agreement, large customers like Google can pay a subscription fee on top of their electricity bill to help cover the cost of the upgrades. In exchange, they will receive credit toward their clean energy targets.

The proposal still needs approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission.
