Google Photos is working on a major overhaul of its built-in editing tools. The update includes precision drawing capabilities for the Pen and Highlighter tools, as well as new font styles and text alignment controls for the Text tool.

The test build addresses user complaints about the current limitations of the app's editing setup. Users will be able to dial in precise thin lines or broad strokes using a dedicated brush size slider, and choose from over 25 different shades of color. The Text tool is also getting an upgrade, with 14 new font options and left, center, and right text alignment controls.

In addition to the editing tools, Google is testing a small design change that addresses user frustration with the main home feed. A toggle in the app settings will allow users to turn off automatic enlargement of thumbnails, maintaining a clean grid size across their entire gallery.
