Google Photos Unveils Redact Feature for Blurring Sensitive Info
Google Photos has rolled out a new feature called Redact, which allows users to blur out sensitive information such as license plates, home addresses, and other identifying details before sharing photos. This tool is part of the updated Markup toolkit and is available globally on Android devices. Users can select the area they want to redact and choose from different styles, including Mosaic, Mosaic Light, and Blur.
The Redact feature is a response to similar tools offered by Samsung, OPPO, and OnePlus at the system level. Google Photos' update also brings new fonts and brush/marker thickness sliders to the Markup toolkit. However, some AI features within Google Photos require a subscription to Google's AI Pro or AI Ultra tier, which costs $20/month and $30/month respectively.
The Wardrobe tool, an AI-powered closet cataloger, is now available on both Android and iOS but only in the US, India, and Brazil. It requires a Google AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription. Gemini Spark integration allows users to find and edit photos using plain-text prompts for those with AI subscriptions.
