Google Pixel Update Locks Out Users, Prompting Calls for Caution
Google Pixel users are experiencing lockout issues after installing the September 2026 update. The issue affects various models, including the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 9a, and Pixel 8 Pro. Users report that their phones become locked out due to problems with pattern or PIN unlocking.
The problem causes the unlock pattern line to disappear immediately after connecting the second dot, making it impossible to complete the pattern. Some users also encounter a 'PIN is wrong' message when entering just the first digit of their PIN. The issue triggers an emergency countdown timer after multiple incorrect PIN attempts.
Google is aware of the problem and has been reaching out to affected users on Reddit. However, the company has yet to address the issue publicly or release an update with a fix. Users are advised to back up their devices before installing updates to avoid losing files in case they need to factory reset their phones.
