Google Pixel Watch 5 Leverages Advanced Sensors for Proactive Health Monitoring
Google has unveiled its latest smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 5, which boasts improved health tools and a more proactive assistant. Unlike previous models, this watch doesn't wait for users to ask before taking action, instead using advanced sensors to monitor vital signs in real-time.
The Pixel Watch 5 features a Domed Actua 360 display with a brightness of 3,000 nits, which should be sufficient even on sunny days. The battery life is decent, lasting up to 40 hours on the 45-millimeter model and 30 hours on the 41-millimeter model.
Google's new Gemini assistant has undergone significant changes, allowing users to interact with it silently by lifting their wrist. Offline commands include timers, alarms, workouts, audio playback, and basic settings. When linked, Gemini can receive messages and calendar entries and perform one-tap actions such as retrieving a reservation or displaying a map to a lunch appointment.
The watch also includes advanced health tools, including a breathing emergency detecting system that uses photoplethysmography, accelerometer, and barometer data to detect sustained reductions in blood oxygen levels. This feature will initially be available in several European markets but not in the United States due to lack of FDA approval.
