Google Play Books Unveils AI-Powered Reading Companion with Book Insights

Google Play Books has introduced a new feature called Book Insights, which uses AI to provide reading companionship and assistance. This feature is built with Gemini inside Google Play Books and helps readers summarize chapters, clarify confusing text, track characters, and ask specific questions about select English ebooks.

The 'Catch me up' feature allows readers to get back on track by generating a recap of what they've already read, while the 'Ask Play Books' box enables users to ask their own questions without leaving the page. Book Insights is designed to provide spoiler-free responses and currently available in select English ebooks.

The tool can be accessed through the lightbulb icon in the top navigation bar on the Play Books Android app or the web reader. It's worth noting that generative AI is still experimental, and responses may not always be accurate.
