Google Play Lowers Commission Fees for Simultaneous Launches
Google has made significant changes to its game distribution fees on Android. Starting September 30, 2026, Google Play will reduce its commission on game revenue above $1 million a year from 20% down to 15%. However, this discount is only available for titles that launch on Android at the same time they become available on other platforms.
Developers who miss this window face a six-month waiting period before they can become eligible for the Level Up rate-card benefits. This cooldown period applies if a game launches on a comparable non-Android platform before its Android version ships.
The new fee structure is part of Google's Level Up program, which aims to incentivize developers to launch their games simultaneously across all platforms, including PC and console. The policy change has been met with mixed reactions from the industry, with some seeing it as a positive move towards more synchronized releases, while others are concerned about the added complexity.
