Google Prepares to Unveil Agentic Laptop Platform Googlebook

Google is set to unveil its premium laptop platform, Googlebook, at an in-person media event in New York on September 15. The event will provide a deeper look at the software and hardware from PC partners, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The first devices are expected this fall, but the bigger question is whether Google is building one of the first personal computers designed around an emerging agentic computing model.

An agentic PC would move more work to AI, allowing users to tell the computer what they want to accomplish and let AI determine which information, applications, and actions are needed. This creates a tradeoff for Google: the more Gemini can hide the complexity of individual applications, the less the application gap costs Google.

Google has previously tried to bring Android applications to laptops, but this attempt is different. The company describes Googlebook as the next generation of ChromeOS built on the Android stack, with existing Android apps able to run on the new platform. Intel, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are supplying processors.
