Google Releases AI-Powered Image Creation Tool Pics, But Privacy Concerns Remain

Google has released a new image creation and editing tool called Google Pics, part of its Workspace suite. This AI-powered feature allows users to generate, refine, and co-create images with more precision, suitable for design work or social media posts.

Pics is based on Google's Nano Banana image generation and editing model, giving users the control necessary to produce anything they're imagining. The service will be available as a standalone product and also be incorporated into Workspace apps, beginning with Slides, Docs, and Drive.

While Pics has some cool features, more akin to Adobe Photoshop's layers, it doesn't address the long-standing issue of privacy in Google Photos. Users are still waiting for end-to-end encryption for general albums and proper control over who can see their memories.
