Google Maps has updated its application to rename Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' for users in the United States. This change reflects an order by President Donald Trump, issued amid a trade war with Canada that has seen both countries impose billions of dollars in added tariffs on each other's goods.

The decision was made based on Google's practice of using names assigned by the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which is also known as the GNIS.

According to Google, users in Canada will continue to see 'Lake Ontario', while those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names.
