Google Restricts Gemini Free Version Access Starting October 9

Google is making significant changes to its AI platform Gemini, restricting access to free users starting October 9. The tech giant will remove the Gemini Flash and Gemini Pro models from the free version, leaving only the basic Gemini Flash-Lite available. This model can handle simple tasks like translations and short summaries but lacks the capability to process complex data or extensive documents.

The move is part of a broader trend of tightening access for free users. Paid subscribers will also see changes, with the 'AI Plus' plan losing access to the Pro model. This plan, priced at 5 euros per month, will now only offer Flash-Lite and Flash, along with increased computing capacity. To access all three models, users will need to upgrade to the 'AI Pro' plan at 21.99 euros per month.

Google is introducing a new feature allowing users to adjust the intensity of AI responses, with options for Low, Medium, and High settings. Higher settings provide more thorough answers but consume more computing capacity. Observers speculate that these changes are preparing for the launch of Gemini 4 'Argon,' expected to be exclusive to the premium 'AI Ultra' plan at 99.99 euros per month, though no official launch date has been announced.
